1. Definition and general

A germicidal lamp is a special type of lamp which is designated for quartz treatment (sterilization) of air and surfaces through the ultraviolet (UV-C) light with the bactericidal effect. It is used in premises, which must be treated, during the time when people are away. The necessity to air the premises on the type of UV-C-source (ozon or ozon free). This ultraviolet light disrupts DNA base pairing causing pyrimidine dimers formation and leads to the inactivation on bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and others. The wavelengths for maximal disinfection are close to 253,7 nm. The quartz treatment of premises is especially effective for avoiding of introduction of infection in the period of an influenza epidemic and acute respiratory disease (ARD).

The lamp is widely used in household use (apartments, houses), in medical facilities (hospitals), in working premises (offices, workshops, production facilities), in kindergarten, schools, colleges, high schools and so on (theaters, cinemas, sports halls, dining halls). 3. Designation

Germicidal lamps for household use from BIOSFERA are designated for quartz treatment of the premises up to 50m3. It may be the rooms total area of 15-20 m2 with room height 2,5-3 m. If you need to disinfect smaller rooms you should use the lamp for less time accordingly, but not less than 10 minutes.

4.  Important about bactericidal recirculators

This has been tested and proven through research and testing in Ukraine and Europe - at the Louis Pasteur Institute (Institut Pasteur).

The efficiency of air purification with a recirculator is 95-99%. Interestingly, the common Sars-Cov-2 virus (causative agent of COVID-19) can be destroyed by radiation from an ultraviolet (quartz) lamp. This was proven by scientists at Columbia University in the USA back in 2019.
